professor gets life's work validated!

i'll admit i have no idea what they are talking about here but this is just beautiful. i get wildly distracted by the obvious passion some people exhibit...and i get really absorbed in observing this outpouring of zest and love and contentment that flows from a person talking about something they're deeply passionate about, such that i don't even hear what the person is saying anymore lol. does this happen to you too? this happens alot to me, especially in school, some professors really walk about lecturing with this passionate energy that's just so hypnotic. i really like just being there and experiencing that feeling vicariously but i end up blocking out all the things i'm supposed to hear and process from class.

Firstly, Renata Kallosh, his wife, is a Stanford Physicist of note, and she instantly understands the significance. The look on her face says it all. :)
Andrei Linde's been working on this since the 1970s, so it's confirmation for the bulk of his life's work. It builds on groundwork laid by Einstein and other great minds of the 20th century, and includes him in their company.

He shows such humility, even in the face of 5σ, which is the statistical way of saying it's a dead certainty (just a 1/1,000,000,000,000 chance of being wrong). He continues to question everything: "Let us just hope this is not a trick. What if I just believe this because it's really beautiful." As a scientist, he has to ask the most useful of questions, "What if?"

You don't need to be a scientist to be awe-inspired by the Big Bang, wonder what happened back then...or be amazed that there are still gravitational waves echoing through the universe from that tiny slice of time, the first “billionth of a billionth of a billionth of a millionth of a second after the Big Bang,” or that we have the means to listen to them and make sense of it."
